EC16: Wir sind eine Runde weiter! [English version below]

Nach zwei spielfreien Tagen galt es für das österreichische Nationalteam heute wieder physisch sowie psychisch voll dazusein um gegen das französische Team zu bestehen. Das gelang, sagen wir, so mittel. Zwar war die frühe Führung durch Valentin Gruber das erste Viertel nie wirklich in Bedrängnis, jedoch hatten die Gegner mehr Spielanteile als gewollt und als notwendig gewesen wäre. Man ließ sich ein wenig von der Hektik und Ungenauigkeit der Franzosen anstecken und spielte an allen Ecken und Enden sehr fehlerbehaftet. Der Schlendrian war drin, könnte man sagen. Einzig Stephan Lorenz behielt einen kühlen Kopf und konnte in der ersten Hälfte gleich drei Mal einnetzen. Mit Fortdauer des Spiels bekamen die Österreicher das selbige immer besser in Griff und man konnte eine 6:2 Führung in die Halbzeit bringen.
Ähnlich ging es weiter, mal bessere mal schlechtere Phasen überstehend kontrollierte unser Nationalteam das Spiel recht ungefährdet. Auch Neuling Marcel Reinsperger konnte sich mit einem Assist ebenfalls erstmal in die Scorerliste eintragen. Die Franzosen müssten wohle ebenfalls erkannt haben, das gegen die überlegenen Österreicher nichts zu holen ist und schlugen gegen Ende des Spiels einen ruppigeren Ton an. Davon ließ man sich jedoch nicht beeindrucken und antwortete trocken – mit Toren. Am Ende schaute eine solide Partie, die gefahrlos gewonnen mit 10:3 gewonnen werden konnte heraus. Einziger Schönheitsfleck, Longstick Midfielder Daniel Topolanek fällt wohl für den Rest des Turniers mit einer Bänderzerrung im Knöchel aus. Mit Ruhm hatte man sich allerdings nicht bekleckert und gegen den nächsten Gegner Spanien wird eine bessere Performance abgeliefert werden müssen, wenn man eine Runde weiter kommen möchte.

After two days off the Austian Lacrosse Nationalteam had to be ready again physically and mentally to beat today’s opponent France. They were, let’s say, partially. An early lead by Valentin Gruber was well defended throughout the first period but the French found their game much better then expected and probably also necessary. The Austrians got carried away by the sloppy and hectic game of their opponents. Only Stephan Lorenz was not interested in that kind of game and scored three times in the first half. As the game went on the Austrian Team found their pace and produced halftime lead of 6:2.
The second half went on similarly. Austria went through better and worse phases of the game but was able to maintain control. Rookie Marcel Reinsperger got on the scoreboard with his first assist today. As the French recognised they had to face another loss, they started to play harder. The Austrian Team was not impressed and answered the way they should – by scoring goals. In the end a solid game was won 10:3. It certainly wasn’t their best game though and our team has to step it up tomorrow if they want to play with their next opponent Spain and advance another round. Only bad news for the Austrians, longstick midfielder Daniel Topolanek will miss the rest of the tournament with a sprained ankle.
