EC16: Wir sind fünfter in der Gruppe!
Österreich 1:16 Schottland

Die Gruppenphase ist Geschichte. Österreich beendet die schwere Gruppe B auf dem fünften Rang. Das minimale Ziel erfüllt, jetzt kommen Gegner die eher unserem Niveau entsprechen.
Gegen das schottische Team begannen die Österreicher ohne Rücksicht auf Verluste und konnten im ersten Viertel gut gegen das Team aus Schottland mithalten. Klaus Hauer brachte die Österreicher nach einem Assist von Rintaro Fujita und schönem langen Ballbesitz sogar mit 1:0 in Führung. Einige weitere Chancen konnten herausgespielt aber nicht verwertet werden. Die Schotten kamen leider gegen die gute Defensive von Österreich doch noch zu zwei Treffern und es ging mit 1:2 in die erste Viertelpause. Patrick Falb hatte ebenfalls einen guten Start und konnte sich mit einigen wichtigen Saves auszeichnen. Die Pausenansprache des schottischen Trainers dürfte sein Team offensichtlich etwas wachgerüttelt haben, denn im zweiten Viertel wurde jeder Fehler unseres Teams gnadenlos ausgenutzt. Ein 1:9 Halbzeitstand war die Folge.
Leider konnten die Österreicher auch im Dritten Viertel kaum mit ihren Gegnern mithalten, erst in der letzten Periode wachten sie wieder auf und konnten sich körperlich noch einmal dagegen Stemmen. Gute Schüsse von Rainer Jakisch und Emil Landgrebe waren leider nicht von Erfolg gekrönt. So musste man sich Schlussendlich doch hoch mit 1:16 geschlagen geben. Nicht zu vergessen ist hierbei doch, dass es sich bei Schottland um eines der Besten Teams der Welt handelt bei dem sich die Österreicher durchaus Respekt verschaffen konnten.
Jetzt gilt es die nächsten zwei Spielfreien Tage gut zu nutzen um kleine Verletzungen auszukurieren und so fit wie möglich in die anstehende K.O.-Phase zu gehen. Der nächste Gegner heißt nämlich Frankreich und bei dem kann sich das österreichische Nationalteam durchaus Chancen auf den Sieg ausrechnen.

EC16: We’re fifth in our pool.

Pool-play is in the books and Austria finished their strong group on rank five. Minimum goal accomplished and now more opponents on the same level awaiting the Austrian Lacrosse Nationalteam.
Austria had a head start against the Scots. They started to play hard from the first whistle on and could keep up with their world class opponent during the first period. Klaus Hauer even got the Austrians ahead after a nice Rintaro Fujita feed and after that long possession it was 1:0. A couple more opportunities were created but only the Scottish team was able to score against a strong Austrian defense backed up by Patrick Falb who had a great game as well. Apparently the opponents Coach found the right words so we saw a different Scottish team after that. They exploited every single mistake of the Austrians which led to the halftime score of 1:9.
Unfortunately the Scottish didn’t stop there. It was until the last period when team Austria could finally catch a break and fight back the powerful Scotsmen. Nice shots from Rainer Jakisch and Emil Landgrebe weren’t lucky enough to find the back of the net and so the Austrians had to face a 1:16 defeat. Nevertheless, Scotland is one of the strongest teams in the world and they certainly have chances to win the tournament this year.
Now it’s time to heal some injuries and get ready again our nationalteam has two days off. The next opponent is team France and Austria is certainly trying to get their second win and move ahead in the tournament.
