Herren Europameisterschaft #5

EC16: Wir sind nicht unzufrieden!

Norwegen 14:5 Österreich
Klaus Hauer (4), Valentin Gruber

EC16: We’re not unhappy!

Norway 14:5 Austria
Klaus Hauer (4), Valentin Gruber

On another sunny day in the pannonian basin Austria’s opponent was the Norwegian nationalteam. In the second to last pool-play game Team Austria tried to make the most out of their slim chances for third place.

The Norwegian team obviously tried to deny that. As expected they began very determined from the first face-off on. They were dominating the first 12 minutes and the game almost entirely took place in Austria’s half of the field. Our defense got into the game pretty quickly and held Norway to only 3 goals in that period. Klaus Hauer then scored twice before the Norwegians got another one. So it was 4:2 after the first quarter. The game didn’t change much until halftime, the opposing offense had problems against Austria’s strong defense, which, on the other hand, had problems getting the ball to their offense. The Norwegians scored one in a while, the Austrians didn’t. 7:2 Halftime.
The second half looked similar. The Austrians couldn’t fix their problems clearing, the defense and goalies stood strong and prevented a higher score. Altogether the game looked a lot more even than the score might indicate but the Norwegian Team did a lot of small thing a lot better than the Austrian Team and that ultimately led to the final score of 14:5 and a well-deserved win for the Norwegians.

Austria’s last opponent is gonna be Scotland tomorrow. Certainly one of the best teams in this tournament and Austria is preparing for a tough game but will try to make it as difficult as possible for the Scottish.
