EC16: Wir sind nicht mehr ungeschlagen [English version below]

Der erste Spieltag der Europameisterschaft begann mit einem Donnerschlag. Nein, wirklich, ein Gewitter das die Gegend einfach nicht verlassen wollte verzögerte den Beginn um fast vier Stunden. Die Österreicher konnten die Spannung und Konzentration gut halten und begannen mit viel Herz und Teamgeist. Trotz einer schnellen Führung der Waliser, fand das österreichische Team gut ins Spiel und konnte lange einen 1:2 Rückstand halten. Mit 1:4 ging es dann aber in die erste Viertelpause. Über weite Strecken konnte man den Gegnern Paroli bieten, einige Schwäche-phasen, die die Waliser nutzten um ihre Führung weiter auszubauen, ließen den Rückstand jedoch weiter anwachsen. Vor allem in der zweiten Halbzeit machte sich der Klassenunterschied zwischen dem jungen österreichischen Nationalteam und den routinierten Walisern bemerkbar. Nach 80 Minuten Spielzeit konnte man mit 3:16, nach einem 0:19 bei der WM in Manchester, das bisher beste Ergebnis gegen Wales einfahren. 

Trotz allem kann man stolz auf die Leistung und vor Allem den Einsatz gegen einen einfach übermächtigen Gegner sein.

Morgen wartet bereits die nächste schwere Aufgabe: Das Team des vormaligen Nationalteamtrainers Christian Arnold - Irland.

EC16: We are not unbeaten anymore!

Austria 3:16 Wales

The first day of the European championships started with a thunderstorm. No, literally, a thunderstorm delayed the start of the games for about four hours. The Austrians were able to keep their focus and excitement for the game and started off with a lot of heart and teamspirit. Although the Welsh scored quickly, Team Austria found their pace and could hold on to tight 1:2 throughout most of the first quarter until Wales scored two more times to make it 1:4 to go into the first quarter break. The Austrians fought hard to keep the score tight but Wales used their chances to increase their lead. In the second half the quality difference of the young Austrian Team and the experienced Welsh paid off. After 80 minutes of playing time, the loss of 3:16, was the best score in Austrias history against Wales (after a 0:19 loss at the World Cup 2010). Nevertheless we can be proud of what we’ve seen on the pitch, Austria put up a good fight against a much stronger Welsh team.

Tomorrow, the next difficult game is waiting for the Austrian Lacrosse Nationalteam: the team of former nationalteam coach Christian Arnold – Ireland.
